OUR HISTORY

Michael G. Miller founded OGOS Energy in 2014 as the final chapter in his lifelong endeavor to leave the world better than he found it. After receiving a devastating stage IV prostate cancer diagnosis, Mike devoted himself to utilizing his 40+ years of experience in Fortune 100 commercial real estate development, high finance, and strategic consulting for a public utility to create a company that could help tackle the greatest threat to humanity’s future - climate change.

He set our mission to accelerate development of reliable and cost-effective renewable energy generation assets in order to meet demand, contribute to the sustainability of our natural environment, create beneficial regional economic activity, and reward our investors.  

In 2014, OGOS became the first minority-owned company ever to qualify with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to bid for offshore wind lease development rights in BOEM’s competitive auction program.  OGOS participated in the Maryland offshore lease auction and subsequently provided project development support within the offshore wind industry. Doing business as SCS Maryland Energy, OGOS established a partnership with SCS Energy LLC, a company with gigawatt experience in construction of environmentally-friendly utility-scale electric generating facilities.  

OGOS has acted as development consultant for multiple procurements for utility-scale solar energy PPA's including Federal and private RFPs.  OGOS developed a proprietary renewable energy Project Finance & Budgeting model that has been exhaustively vetted by several investment banks and top-tier Engineering, Procurement & Construction firms.  Its analytical tool set provides OGOS and its strategic partners with a distinct competitive advantage for sourcing and completing green-field solar development projects.  

Mike brought over twelve years of regulated utility holding company finance and strategic planning experience to OGOS, in addition to decades of hands-on success in commercial property development as an entrepreneur, investor and Fortune 100 real estate development executive. He was a former Principal of the Arundel Group, providing business advisory services to venture-funded start-ups.  He was also a strategy consultant and Director of Financing at WGL Holdings. Earlier, Mike was Senior Director at PepsiCo and Program Manager of Treasury Strategy at IBM.  Mike's volunteer Board service included Annapolis Life Care / Ginger Cove, and past service on the Maryland Venture Fund Authority. Mike was a Yale University graduate with his MBA in Finance from the University of North Carolina.

Before Mike’s death in 2022, OGOS successfully co-developed 4 ground-mount projects totaling nearly 9MW with more than 11,000,000 kWh Annual Production. This included 5.5MW of Community Solar that serves approximately 700 Maryland households with a minimum low-to-moderate (LMI) household savings of 20%. It also includes a 2.7MW virtual Aggregate Net-Energy Metered project powering WSSC Water, one of the largest water and wastewater utilities in the nation that delivers clean drinking water to almost 2 million Maryland residents. That project earned the distinction of being selected as a 2020 Solar Builder Project of the Year finalist.

OGOS’ work is far from over, but Mike’s vision has unquestionably been realized.
